I bought a few of the VT11 pedals to mod (as they were being sold off for a tenner each new) and when left as stock, they sounded terrible. The difference is that the Tube Pilot does not have an EQ section, only the Gain and Volume controls, making this pedal slightly different, but exactly how much difference, we aren’t sure yet.Ĭould it still be a VT911 though just without an EQ section? I just put the gain at 9 and the volume and tone controls around Noon or 1 O'Clock and it was about as perfect as I could ask for. I just got a Skeddy Pig Mine yesterday and I am very, very impressed. If you're really looking for a Gilmour "Solo" tone though (depending on era) as mentioned above, a Big Muff of some sort or a Fuzz Face style pedal would be more of what you are looking for. I never a/b'd the 2, but I did have a Keeley modded one which has a little more bass on them which might get you closer to what you are looking for. A Boss Blues Driver would also probably get you in that ballpark as well. I dialed them both with around the same gain and they were both very similar to my ears as far as the amount of gain and tonal characteristics, however the Tube Driver does have as mentioned a little more bass response.
